Palm Tree Pruning and Removal in Belle Isle
We trim dead fronds, seed pods and flower stalks without stripping the healthy green your palm lives on. When a palm is failing, we take it down safely and haul it away. You get a straight answer on whether to keep it or replace it.
Prune Less, Prune Right
A palm is not like an oak. It grows from one bud at the top, and every green frond feeds it. Cut too many and the trunk narrows, growth slows and the palm gets weaker in wind. That tight "pineapple" cut some crews sell looks tidy for a month and costs the palm for years.
So we take what is dead, hanging or about to drop, and leave the rest. A palm pruned this way usually needs less work later, not more. That is the trade we look at on every job: what you pay now against how long the palm stays healthy and how often you will need us back.
Some palms are past saving. Butt rot, lethal bronzing or a cracked trunk will not heal. In those cases removal is the cheaper call over time, and we will tell you that plainly.
What the Work Includes
Dead and hanging fronds
We remove brown fronds and any that hang below level. Green fronds stay, including the yellowing older ones that are still moving nutrients up to the new growth.
Seed pods and flower stalks
Queen palms and date palms drop heavy fruit that stains pavers, draws insects and sprouts in your beds. Cutting the stalks early keeps the mess down and saves the palm some energy.
Boot and trunk cleanup
On sabal palms we can trim loose old frond bases if you want a cleaner trunk. We do not peel tight boots, because that scars the trunk for good.
No spikes on live palms
Climbing spikes leave holes that never close and give rot a way in. We use ladders or a lift on palms we are keeping.
Full palm removal
We take the palm down in sections where space is tight, lower the pieces and haul everything off. If you want the stump gone, we can add stump grinding the same visit or later.
Cleanup before we leave
Fronds, pods and sawdust get raked and blown off your lawn, beds and drive. You should not find spines in the grass next week.

Signs Your Palm Needs Attention
- A skirt of brown fronds
- Dead fronds that stay on become a nest for rats and a fire and wind hazard. They need to come off.
- Fronds over the roof or pool cage
- Heavy fronds fall on their own. A dry date palm frond can puncture a screen enclosure, and that repair costs more than the trim.
- Mushroom-like growth at the base
- A shelf-shaped conk near the soil line often means Ganoderma butt rot. There is no cure, and the palm can fall without warning. We would look at it soon.
- The spear leaf has died
- If the newest center leaf turns brown or pulls out easily, the bud may be dead. A palm with a dead bud will not come back.
- A narrowing trunk
- A pinched section near the top usually means the palm was over-pruned or underfed. We can show you where it happened and how to stop it from getting worse.
How a Palm Job Goes
- 1
Walkthrough at your home
We look at each palm, the spear leaf, the trunk and the base. We point out what needs cutting and what should stay. The walkthrough is free.
- 2
A written estimate
You get the price per palm or for the whole job, with haul-away and any stump work listed on their own lines. No add-ons on the day.
- 3
Work day
We set up drop zones, cover beds near the base if needed and keep pieces away from screens, fences and the roof. Most pruning jobs on a few palms finish in a few hours.
- 4
Haul-off and a final look
We clear the debris and walk the yard with you. If we saw signs of nutrient trouble, we tell you what we noticed so you can plan for it.
What Sets the Price
Palm work is priced by the palm, not by the hour, and a few things move that number. Height and access matter most. We go over each one at the walkthrough so the estimate makes sense before you agree to it.
- Height and number of palms
- A ten-foot pygmy date palm is a quick trim. A tall Washingtonia needs a lift or a longer climb, and more time.
- Species
- Canary Island date palms have long spines and heavy fronds, so they take more care to cut and handle. Sabal palms are faster.
- Access and what is underneath
- Palms beside a pool cage, power lines, a roof or a narrow side yard mean lowering pieces by rope instead of dropping them.
- Removal and stump work
- Taking a palm down costs more than pruning it, and grinding the stump is a separate line. A permit, where your city requires one for removal, adds a step we check before work starts.
- Timing
- Many people want palms trimmed before hurricane season starts in June. Booking earlier in spring gives you more choice of dates.
Palm Pruning and Removal Questions
- How often should my palms be trimmed?
- Most palms need it once a year, sometimes twice for fast growers like queen palms. If a palm keeps needing more, it is often a feeding problem, not a pruning one. We can tell you which it is at the walkthrough.
- Should I cut my palms way back before hurricane season?
- No. Over-pruned palms actually handle wind worse, because the green fronds help protect the bud. Remove the dead fronds and the pods, and leave the healthy canopy.
- Why are the lower fronds turning yellow?
- Often it is potassium deficiency, which is common in sandy Central Florida soil. The palm pulls nutrients from old fronds to feed new ones, so cutting those yellow fronds makes it worse. Leave them until they turn fully brown.
- Will the palm grow back if I cut it down?
- Single-trunk palms do not resprout from the stump. Clumping palms like some date palms can send up new shoots, which we can cut back. The stump will slowly rot on its own, or we can grind it out.
- Can I pay for a larger job over time?
- Yes. Financing is available for amounts up to $100,000, with terms anywhere from 2 to 12 years, and you can pay the balance off early without being penalized. Homeowners often use it when several palms come out at once and the yard gets replanted through our landscape design work.
- How long have you been doing this work?
- We have been in business since 2018, trimming and removing palms for homeowners around Belle Isle, Edgewood and Pine Castle. We also handle tree trimming and removal for oaks and other hardwoods on the same property.
